Welcome to Canadian! PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to Canadian!

Whether you're visiting for the weekend, returning for one of our annual celebrations, or moving into our community, your friends and neighbors in Canadian welcome you to our "Oasis on the Prairie."

While in Canadian, make sure to visit our many area attractions.  The River Valley Pioneer Museum tells the tales of years gone by in our area and often serves as an exhibit hall for local artists.  The Citadelle Art Museum, opened to the public in May of 2009, houses a world-renowned collection of art.  Work up your appetite by taking a walk on the historic Canadian River Wagon Bridge or by strolling around the paths at beautiful Lake Marvin.  Don't exhaust yourself in the great outdoors for too long because Canadian is home to many unique retail shops that you won't want to miss!

Living In Canadian PDF Print E-mail

Since its incorporation in 1908 and its founding long prior to that time, Canadian has always been a place of pride and purpose for its driven and determined citizens. In the 1985 Hemphill County History book, Tom Abraham noted, “…I know Canadian folks—they just don’t give up.” This speaks volumes about the people who have worked so hard over the past 130+ years to build this ever changing community that continues to thrive.

Canadian offers an award winning school system, professional healthcare, dedicated government officials, a strong economic climate, and a quality of life that far surpasses that found in most small rural communities. The Canadian Independent School District educates children from early childhood through high school. Canadian Elementary School houses Prekindergarten through Second Grade. Baker Elementary houses Third through Fifth grades, Canadian Middle School is home to Sixth through Eighth grades, and grades Nine through Twelve reside at Canadian High School. Year after year students thrive in the CISD with its low student to teacher ratio and its ‘Commitment to Excellence.’
