Canadian Cultural District


Rooted in the Canadian River Valley, Canadian is a community where families, businesses, arts and education are valued. Canadian is a year-round destination for arts, cultural and outdoor activity. With that in mind, The Canadian Cultural District was established by the city of Canadian in 2017 to provide vibrancy and unity to our historical assets, local culture and arts scene represented within the district. The district is home to many well-known annual events including festivals, music performances, fall foliage tours, museums and art exhibitions, artist and writer workshops, local industry conferences, rodeos and more. The Canadian Cultural District and its partners draw thousands of visitors into the River City each year. Come experience the excitement of the Canadian Cultural District for yourself.

Canadian River Art Studio

Canadian River Art is a combination western art gallery and fine art academy in Canadian, Texas. We sell quality original fine art by some of the most talented artists of the American West and offer certified art instruction for youth and adults.

River 7 Artist Studio

This charming wooden red building is the weekly meeting spot for local artists to work, laugh, and gather inspiration. The artists work in many painting mediums; pastels, acrylics, and oils as well as craft projects.

Wings of a Dove Art Studio

This charming 875 square foot studio and gallery belongs to artist Ronda Bartlett. Now the president of the local Happy State Bank, she looks forward to sharing this space with friends and fellow artists.

Doug Ricketts Studio

Combining fine domestic woods with cast off ag machinery parts and occasional accent lumber from the ruins, this artist/furniture maker creates one-of-a-kind sculptures. Each piece tells a story of this wide-open country.

This charming studio offers Sunrise Yoga, Senior Yoga, Yoga Workouts, Line Dance Cardio classes every week. Outreach programs include Chair Yoga at Mea View.

River Valley Pioneer Museum

Canadian's River Valley Pioneer Museum offers historic interpretation of the settlement period in the eastern Texas Panhandle. We have permanent exhibits as well as rotating exhibits from a variety of collections.

The Citadelle Art Foundation

The Citadelle Art Foundation provides a sanctuary for all forms of expressions that celebrate life through art. The Foundation fulfills its mission by providing world-class artistic media for the consumption of the people in an inspired environment.

Roberts County Museum

The Roberts County Museum, located in Miami, archives and displays the history (and pre-history) of the surrounding region. The museum also houses a portion of the Mead Collection, an archive of prehistoric archaeological artifacts excavated in Roberts County.

Jackson Park Complex

Canadian’s Skate Park was designed by Tony Hawk of California. Anthony Frank "Tony" Hawk, commonly known by his nickname "The Birdman," is an American professional skateboarder, actor, and owner of the skateboard company Birdhouse. .

Texas Crown Performance Hall

Extensive remodeling to the Canadian Middle School auditorium brought in a light and sound system the envy of many colleges. This 630 seat auditorium is used for Canadian Arts Alliance plays, concerts and public events throughout the year.

Canadian Visitors’ Center

Architecturally designed to pay homage to Canadian’s Harvey House, the Canadian Visitors’ Center is headquarters to many local events as well as a place for visitors to gather event information, maps, brochures, and books. The lobby features interesting exhibits throughout the year.

Palace Theatre

This historic building was first opened as a vaudeville house in 1909. In 1997 it was completely restored at the direction of architect Killis Almond, known for his landmark work restoring historic theaters.

Main Event Venue

This downtown venue is the perfect space for business meetings, family gathers, birthday parties, cookouts, class reunions, and community events. They offer a catering kitchen with commercial stove, refrigerator, ice maker, soft serve ice cream maker, 166” screen, high definition 4K projector.

Gazebo Park

This shady neighborhood park and gazebo is home to public and private events throughout the year. Weddings, an annual live Christmas Nativity, and Music in the Park events are held here.

Hemphill County Courthouse Grounds

Thousands gather each July on the courthouse square to watch the parade. The Smiley Johnson Memorial Band fills the air with patriotic music. Food vendors set up under the shady trees serving everything from cotton candy and homemade jerky to tacos.

Garden Creek Market

Beginning in 2017, this open air market adjacent to Canadian Gardens draws a crowd during Canadian’s major festivals, Music Festival in May, 4th Of July, Fall Foliage Festival in October.

Stumblin’ Goat Saloon

The Stumblin’ Goat Saloon books 50 Texas and regional bands per year. The intimate space, with seating for 147, allows patrons to listen to singers/songwriters performing original Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt music most Saturday nights.

Jones Pavilion & Hemphill County Recreation Center

Rodeo grounds and pens, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, driving range, fishing ponds, Frisbee golf, RV camping, and the Jones Pavilion are within the bounds of this well-used park. Capacity: 2,000+.

Sunset Park, created by Mert and Betty Cooper, is home to a world-class sculpture collection. . Curving landscaped walks crisscross this 5.7-acre park allowing visitors to view the dozen sculptures from many angles. Seating areas entice guests to stop and enjoy a sunset over the Blue Mesas.

Former Santa Fe Depot Area

The Santa Fe Depot Station No. 366, Roundhouse, Reading Room, and Harvey House were once situated at the base of Main Street along the tracks. The two 20 by 14 foot murals by artist Tom Gibson, commissioned in 2012 by Bartlett Enterprises, provide a daily reminder of this rich railroad history.

Baker School Memorial

This is an exceptional example in preservation. B.M Baker School was built in 1921 and demolished 72 years later. The original school could not be saved but two portions remain. Three larger-than-life bronzes of children were commissioned by Utah artist Gary Price.

Quanah Parker Arrow

Tall arrows, crafted in steel by sculptor Charles Smith, and accented with bands of Comanche red, yellow and blue, can be found across the Texas Plains. A network of these 22- foot-tall arrows mark the sites where the Comanche and their last chief, Quanah Parker, hunted, traded, lived, traveled, and fought.
