Back to School Shopping in Canadian for the Sales Tax Holiday Weekend
I'm not sure where summer went, but we can be sure it's almost over because it's already time for Texas' sales tax holiday weekend to help everyone save a little money for the back to school shopping spree.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reminds shoppers they can save money on everything from pens, jeans and shoes to backpacks and other items priced under $100 during the state’s annual sales tax holiday.
This year, the sales tax holiday is scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Aug. 17-19.
Please keep in mind our local retailers when doing your back to school shopping this weekend. Alco, Dollar Store, and Medic Pharmacy carry many school supplies, and don't forget Three Strand Threads and The Peppermint Tree for clothing for the whole family. Donna's in the Attic and Stitch can customize backpacks and lunch sacks for everyone. Check this week's Canadian Record for hours and specials from many of these businesses.
Join the 'shop local' movement and show these local businesses that THEY MATTER to Canadian. These businesses pay property and sales taxes year-round, they employ many of our residents, increasing our community wealth, and they financially support our community, you, and your kiddos at numerous events all year long. Your dollars spent in Canadian do make a big difference for our merchants! Please show them how much you appreciate them by shopping with them; they can't pay their bills with gratitude!
Lists of apparel and school supplies that may be purchased tax free can be found on the Comptroller’s website at: www.TexasTaxHoliday.org.

We can't wait to see you out and about in Canadian!
